SYNESTHESIA'S SESSION NOTES NOVEMBER 2019

FROM THE DJ'S STUDIO DESK:
The month of November is essentially half over and I am just now getting myself to the opening statement. Well...better late than never and honestly,  for what needs to be said at this time, this part of the month seems a fine of a space and place as any.

On November 11, 2015, Savage Radio went on the air on WVMO for the very first time, meaning that the show has officially reached its 4th birthday, which I commemorated on-air last week. It is a milestone that, if I take some time to sit quietly and think about it, I just may find myself in a sea of  happy tears because this experience is something I do not think that I ever felt would possibly happen for me in this capacity ever again as there are no guarantees in life.

And yet, here I am, a member of this beautiful award winning radio station, being able to spend an hour a week playing songs for all of you out there who choose to listen, as well as for myself, a person who loves to curate music into one hour pieces of self-expression. It will always be my mid-week oasis and my gratitude for having this space is bottomless, as it truly a a childhood fantasy continuing to be grandly fulfilled.

As always, I have so much to be thankful for regarding Savage Radio, its longevity and on-going status as part of the Wednesday night line-up. Of course, to the 'VMO top brass of the now retired Tom Teuber (whom I still have yet to officially meet in person), the wonderful Jedi Master of radio, the also retired Lindsay Wood Davis and William Nimmow, all three of whom allowed me to come aboard and join the ranks into becoming one of the voices of Monona.

I am so thankful to all of my fellow DJs, including Jim Gunderson, Kirk Sweson, Jeff Perry, Taylor Cherry, Johnny Rasta and others for all being figures I learn from as they are all unique, wholly idiosyncratic talents and fans of music who all posses an original voice for the airwaves, making them a pleasure and privilege to listen to. When you hear them, you know you are hearing real, living breathing human beings with a specific point of view and personal taste they are all itching to cultivate, curate and share.

I am so thankful for the DJs I listen to on other radio stations, from the illustrious DJ Nightway and the peerless Randy B. on Madison's WSUM-FM to the mighty and masterful Lara Mondae on Chicago's WXRT-FM. I am thankful for their gifts and even moreso for their friendship, and really...how wonderful it is to forge relationships due to a shared love of music.

I remain thankful to all of the local musicians that I have been fortunate to have become friends with as I have begun as a fan of their works and have also enjoyed hosting them as guests on the radio.

But for always, what is a radio show without having listeners. Now, I have no idea whatsoever of  how many or how few people actually listen to Savage Radio. but I do know of some friends who have been more than kind enough to carve out time from their busy personal lives to listen to what I am doing over the airwaves. While I am typically all alone in the studio when I am on the air, I certainly do not wish for the show to operate entirely in a vacuum for what is a radio show without listeners? I am nothing without you and I sincerely hope that I am able to continue making shows that you will enjoy hearing.

It has been a difficult year in my life and throughout it all Savage Radio and being affiliated with WVMO has cemented itself as being a constant that only provides me with positive emotions. I hope to only keep pushing forwards week to week with the craft of spinning songs that will provide a sense of unity in a world that feels increasingly fractured.

We're in this together and thank you, from the bottom of my heart for being there right alongside me. And always remember to turn that volume all of the way up and...PLAY LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
